This is a two hour workshop for those interested in learning how to build wooden bee hives. We will discuss different types of structures used for housing colonies of honey bees – followed by hands on practice.

The Glen Arbor Golf club hosts a fun and educational outing for the 2nd graders at Primrose school in Somers, NY. The students are broken into groups and rotated through sessions on bluebirds, honeybees, and a hay ride around the golf course to learn about the intricate web of nature that exists all around them.

We will begin with an inspection of the hives followed by a lecture on safety, an overview of beekeeping, and a review of some of the equipment used by beekeepers. The class is held at the Cliffdale Farm and not at the Teatown Reservation main building. Allow a little extra time to find your way to the facility if you haven’t been there before.
